In-Progress: Q-Sys Lighting Control

As a lighting guy, it was only a matter of time before I started working on a lighting control plugin for Q-Sys. While it’s not quite finished, it is developed enough to be in use on a client site.

In normal usage, you can select a fixture, which gives you control over the dimmer and colour. You can copy a colour and paste it to either another selected fixture, or to all other compatible fixtures.

When it comes to dimmers, sometimes you just want access to all of the dimmers without selecting different fixtures, and some fixtures don’t have a dimmer channel.

So, you can get access to all of the dimmer channels at once, and I also wrote a virtual dimmer for those fixtures which need it. So if you have a “budget” fixture which only has RGB channels, and no master/dimmer channel, just click on the virtual dimmer button for that fixture.

So where’s the virtual dimmer button? and how do you set up the fixtures? In the controls you probably won’t present to the end user, you can also input the DMX address, and enter the channels in the fixture’s DMX profile for each feature you want to use. Creating a fixture library might be overkill …
